Abstract

In this chapter Erjavec considers the dynamics of âZhuyiâ or -isms in Chinese aesthetics, philosophy, and the humanities. Professor Wang Jianjiang critiques the subordinate position of Chinese academia relative to Western theories, highlighting the need for China to engage in equal intellectual exchanges with the West. This dialogue aims to prevent misunderstandings and foster mutual understanding. Erjavec discusses the implications of recent Chinese art developments and the ongoing privileging of literature over visual arts in China.
