Abstract

The present study reviews the multi-layered and fragment reception of Dada in Prague between 1918 and 1921. Although Dada was clearly imported, Prague Dada activities assumed their own dynamics, which transformed this node on the Dada network into active periphery. Prague quickly morphed into an exchange point on a map of a more complex transnational network within which communication proceeded by way of personal appearances, correspondence, translations, and local adaptation, mainly in Prague cabarets. All these mechanisms seem to be among key elements that characterize the functioning of networks such as this.
