Abstract

This chapter is based on 22 interviews with university professors working in a faculty of education in Canada. The last thirty years have seen the rise and fall of courses specifically dedicated to gender issues in many teacher education programs in Canada and elsewhere. To make sense of this, four discourses and their respective potentialities and shortcomings have been historicized through their imbrications: (1) Sex vs. Gender, (2) Girl power, (3) Gender diversity, and (4) Intersectionality. Combining these discourses allows for a partial explanation of the limited space given in teacher education programs to study gender imbalances.
