This volume is a collection of essays on transregional aspects of Malay-Indonesian Islam and Islamic Studies, based on Peter G. Riddellâs broad interest and expertise. Particular attention is paid to rare manuscripts, unique inscriptions, QurʾÄn commentaries and translations, textbooks, and personal and public archives. This book invites readers to reconstruct the ways in which Malay-Indonesian Islam and Islamic studies have been structured.

Ervan Nurtawab, Ph.D. (2018), Monash University, is Humboldt Postdoctoral Fellow at Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies (FRIAS), University of Freiburg, Germany. His most recent publication is âVerse Numbering System and Arabic References in Bagus Ngarpahâs Early 20th-Century Javanese Qurʾanâ (2022, with R. Adi Deswijaya).
