In his work, Lâimamat et lâOccultation selon lâimamisme, Etude bibliographique et histoire de textes, Hassan Ansari has attempted to reconstruct a number of doctrines related to the concepts of religious authority (imÄma) as well as occultation (ghayba) in Twelver Shiâi Islam (IthnÄ'ashariyya). This has been done through identifying and collecting numerous references to quotations of early works in later ShiÊ¿i texts. Ansari has reconstructed earlier layers of primary materials that are entirely lost and only pre-served in later sources. The book's Appendix comprises fragments of early works of Hadith reconstructed from later sources.
Hassan Ansari is a member of the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton. He focuses on the study of Islamic theology, philosophy, law, Hadith and legal theory. His publications include Accusations of Unbelief in Islam: A Diachronic perspective on Takfīr (ed. with Camilla Adang, Maribel Fierro, and Sabine Schmidtke, Leiden: Brill 2015).
