Note on Spelling
The consistent spelling of names is a persistent problem. As a general rule, I have adhered to the Latin spelling of classical, medieval, and humanist author names, unless their vernacular versions seemed to be more common in modern international scholarship in English (so, for instance, I write ‘Angelo Poliziano’, not ‘Angelus Politianus’, but ‘Manilius Cabacius Rallus’, not ‘Manilio Cabacio Rallo’).
