This chapter examines the life and teachings of W.D. Fard, the founder of the Nation of Islam, a major African American Islamic organization that emerged soon after the death of Noble Drew Ali. Fardâs background and his likely Pashtun heritage are discussed, with a special focus on documentary evidence from the western United States. Fardâs known teachings are outlined and are compared with several of their likely sources. The Nation founder is shown to have probably drawn from a wide range of Christian millennialist and esoteric sources.
