Anthony Lo Belloâs Gerard of Cremonaâs Translation of Book I of the Commentary of al-Nayrizi on Euclidâs Elements of Geometry is the first modern translation of Gerard of Cremonaâs (1114â1187) Latin version of al-Nayriziâs famous Arabic commentary. Lo Bello gives an introductory account of the twenty-two early extant Arabic manuscripts of the Elements, an annotated English translation of Gerardâs translation of al-Nayriziâs commentary, and finally a critical analysis of the idiosyncrasies of Gerardâs method of translation.

Anthony Lo Bello received his Ph.D. degree in Mathematics from Yale University in 1975 under the supervision of S. Kakutani. He is currently Professor of Mathematics at Allegheny College, Meadville Pennsylvania.
