This book, which represents the fruit of an extended field research, analyses the birth process of the Amazigh movement in Morocco and explores the dynamics of protests that have accompanied its growth from the 1960âs until today. Centred around the transformation of protests over time, this book introduces fresh and fascinating insights into the Amazigh question, its causes, its actors and the various shapes it has taken over the years, and sheds new light on the compelling identity issues that were raised by the Amazigh movement throughout Moroccoâs redefinition of the Nation-State model.
Abdennacer El Ibrahimi, graduate (2010) of the Ãcole nationale d'administration in France, PhD (2011) in Political Science from Hassan II University, Casablanca. His work focuses on social movements, the Amazigh question, and the processes of Nation-State building in Morocco.
"[...] This book is an excellent piece of research in several respects. By linking the genesis of Amazigh protest in the aftermath of Moroccan independence to its associative expression from the 1960s to the present day, Abdennacer El Ibrahimi offers a profound analysis of Amazighity in its relationship to protest. He provides a detailed presentation of events over a period of more than 65 years, which will prove useful for a new generation of researchers [...]." - Didier le Saout, in: Journal of North African Studies, published online 7 April 2024 [DOI: doi.org/10.1080/13629387.2024.2338005]
