Koeman’s Atlantes Neerlandici. New Edition. Vol. V (4 Vols.)

Series:

The fifth instalment of Koeman's Atlantes Neerlandici features the Folio Atlases by Visscher, De Wit, Danckerts, Allard, Schenk, Valk, Mortier, Covens, Ottens and others, c. 1660-c. 1825.
This is a bibliography of atlases published in the Netherlands, replacing the Atlantes Neerlandici (1967-71 and 1985), the bibliography of terrestial, maritime and celestial atlases and pilot books, published in the Netherlands up to 1880, by Professor Cornelis Koeman (1918-2006). To honour his pioneering work in this field, the new edition carries the title Koeman’s Atlantes Neerlandici. Atlantes Neerlandici by Peter van der Krogt features:
• New bibliographical descriptions of the atlases, based upon an inquiry to about 1500 libraries all over the world, according to the latest standards.
• Colour illustrations and full descriptions of all the maps.
• Illustrations of all the frontispieces and many other illustrations.
• Each volume includes a specific group of atlases and has its own indexes.
The fifth volume deals with the folio atlases from the second half of the seventeenth and the eighteenth centuries. The complex publishing history of atlases produced by the Visscher family, Frederick de Wit, Pieter Mortier, and his successors Covens & Mortier, as well as the Ottens brothers – to name the most important ones – has been unravelled for the first time thanks to the complete photographic documentation of over 1,000 atlases, thereby disproving the long-held view that these were merely atlases factices.
