Shmuel N. Eisenstadt (†), Ph.D. (1947), Jerusalem, was Professor Emeritus at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He was a member of many academies and a recipient of honorary doctoral degrees from the Universities of Tel Aviv, Helsinki, Harvard, Duke and Hebrew Union College.
