La première partie de cet essai examine le tableau du cercle et du centre dans Watt, et ses résonances dans l’ œuvre beckettienne, en montrant qu’ il est un exemple particulier de ce qu’ on peut nommer la “pensée plastique” chez Beckett. La deuxième partie analyse ce tableau avec son cercle et son centre à côté d’ un tableau similaire dans L’ écriture et la différence de Jacques Derrida, pour montrer que cette “pensée plastique” est un événement commun à un certain modernisme, et à la déconstruction derridienne.
Abstract
The first part of this article examines the painting of the circle and centre in Watt, and its resonances within Beckett’s work. It shows that this painting is a particular example of what we can call “plastic thinking” in Beckett. The second part analyses this painting next to a similar image in Derrida’s Writing and Difference, in order to show that “plastic thinking” is a common event to both, a certain modernism, and to Derridean deconstruction.
