Abstract

Although all the Gospels deal with discipleship, Luke's Gospel focuses particularly on the cost of discipleship. In this article attention is paid to Luke's presentation of discipleship of Jesus, dealing with such matters as the kind of disciple Jesus called, the significance of following Jesus and the specific features of true discipleship. Some crucial issues such as self-denial and cross-bearing are put into perspective for the present-day reader, indicating the revolutionary character and the rejection of mediocrity this challenge to follow Jesus contains.
