Abstract

This interview is part of the journal’s ongoing “running themes” on international law and academic freedom. It brings together two scholars – Nahed Samour and Aurélia Kalisky – who are members of a collective called the Association of Palestinian and Jewish Academics (PJA), founded in Germany in 2024 in response to the attacks on academic freedom in the context of the Israeli genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. The interview is divided into two parts. The first presents the interviewees’ critical perspectives on Germany’s support for Israel since October 7, 2023, and its justification in terms of “historical responsibility” and Staatsräson. The second examines the attacks on academic freedom in Germany, particularly those carried out in the name of combating antisemitism.
