The Journal of Pacifism and Nonviolence (JPN) is rooted in politics and international relations but interdisciplinary and methodologically plural. Since its launch in 2023, articles and special issues have focused on topics as varied as economics, Islam, unarmed civilian protection, police violence, climate activism, civil resistance, misogyny, pacifist ontology, Hobbes, Tolstoyans, Gandhi, and Martin Luther King.

The editors of JPN welcome research on: varieties of approaches to nonviolence and pacifism, and the relative effectiveness of violence and nonviolence; central accusations against pacifism; tensions between pacifism and nonviolence (and criticisms of both); theories and practices outside the Global North; the multiple direct and indirect consequences of violence; violence and nonviolence in political thought and ideologies; the relationship between violence/nonviolence and gender and race; the religious roots of pacifism and nonviolence; violence and nonviolence in popular culture; the potential for practical nonviolent policies of governance, protection, and defence; assumptions concerning violence in international relations; what makes an act ‘violence’ and when direct action becomes ‘violent’; and methodological challenges in researching and teaching nonviolence and pacifism.

In addition to standard research articles, JPN welcomes proposals for special issues as well as a variety of output types such as forum debates, research notes, interviews, and review articles. All submissions are peer-reviewed. Please do not hesitate to contact the Editor-in-Chief with any queries: jpneic@gmail.com
