In the realm of contemporary art criticism, Christian perspectives have long been marginalized, overshadowed by dominant secular and progressive ideologies. Zha Changpingâs âworld relational aestheticsâ introduces a groundbreaking critical methodology rooted in âRelational Theology,â integrating Christian viewpoints into the analysis and interpretation of contemporary art, particularly Chinese contemporary art. This paper analyzes Zhaâs theoretical framework and its underlying logic, comparing it with the aesthetic theories of Nicolas Bourriaud, Jean Robertson, and Paul Tillich. It explores Zhaâs distinctive insights and the potential limitations of his approach. Despite certain controversies and challenges, this study argues that world relational aesthetics provides a fresh perspective by transcending purely secular analyses and incorporating spiritual dimensions. This approach not only enriches the interpretation of artworks but also significantly broadens the scope of global art criticism, while to some extent responding to calls, in Western art history and criticism, for a renewed dialogue with religion.
