The doctrine of the seven source-spirits is a central element in Jacob Böhme’s thought. His first book, Morgen Röte im auffgang (1612), contains a detailed discussion of the origin, development, and the function(s) of the source-spirits as the foundation of all reality. In this article, the author uses concepts from Aristotle’s Politics to explore how Böhme utilizes ideas of political organization to describe how reality developed in stages from original harmony to the discord of this world.
