A sedentary lifestyle and lack of physical exercise are key contributors to excessive adipose tissue accumulation and the increasing prevalence of obesity. This study aims to evaluate the effects of an endurance-strength training intervention on changes in adipokine and cytokine concentrations, with a focus on metabolic performance. The study involved young adult obese women as subjects. A total of 24 obese young adult women (body mass index ≥ 25 kg/m2) with normal blood glucose concentrations, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and resting heart rate (60-80 bpm) were recruited. The participants were randomly assigned into two groups: the control group (CNR; n = 12) and the endurance-strength training group (EST; n = 12). The EST group underwent an eight-week intervention consisting of endurance training on a treadmill and strength training using fitness machines, with a frequency of five sessions per week at moderate intensity. The results revealed significant differences in the concentrations of adipsin, IL-1β, and irisin between the intervention and control groups (P ≤ 0.05) after periodes of training. Compared to pre-intervention values, adipsin and IL-1β concentrations showed a significant reduction (P ≤ 0.05), whereas irisin concentrations significantly increased (P ≤ 0.05) in EST group. These findings indicate that an eight-week endurance-strength training program may contribute to metabolic improvements and modulate specific adipokines and cytokines. However, given that only IL-1β was assessed as an inflammatory marker, the study does not provide sufficient evidence to make broad conclusions regarding inflammation. Further research involving a more comprehensive panel of metabolic and inflammatory biomarkers is needed to confirm these findings and evaluate the long-term efficacy of this intervention.
