This chapter examines the following question: whether the Yogācāras would be in agreement with the Sarvāstivādins or the Sautrāntikas in their debate on the issue of what constitutes the cognitive objects of mental consciousness. The short answer is that they would lean more towards the Sarvāstivādins in their conviction that sensory objects are included in the cognitive objects of mental consciousness and that mental consciousness does have direct access to these physical objects; nevertheless, there are some complications related to the different stages of Yogācāra Buddhism.
