This Book has its roots in a research project funded by the University of Florence to Deborah Russo, Laura Magi, and Martina Buscemi between 2017 and 2018. The interesting outcomes of the research provided the background for the 14th edition of the Italian Conference of the Young Researchers of International and European Union Law, organized by the project team in Florence on 23 April 2018, with the collaboration of Nicole Lazzerini and the precious support of the Italian Society of International Law and European Union Law (SIDI-ISIL). On that occasion it clearly emerged that some important dynamics that are affecting the legal sources in the field of B&HRs, especially in the domains of international law and EU law, were under researched.
The Editors have many debts of gratitude. The first one goes to the University of Florence and to our guides in the Law Department, Professors of International Law Micaela Frulli, Olivia Lopes Pegna and Luisa Vierucci, and Professors of EU Law Adelina Adinolfi and Chiara Favilli, for the material and moral support given throughout the project and the elaboration of this Book. A heartedly thank is then reserved to the senior colleagues that brilliantly acted as discussants during the Conference, namely Professors Paolo Bertoli, Francesco Costamagna, Filippo Fontanelli, and Cesare Pitea. Their comments, considerations, and suggestions, together with those of the participants to the Conference, provided us with much food for further thought: we hope that we made the best of it.
A special thank goes to Professor Angelica Bonfanti, for her acute general conclusions at the Conference and the precious comments provided since an early stage of the Book project and throughout its development.
Clearly, this Book would have not come to light without the knowledge, commitment and hardworking of the excellent researchers that authored its Chapters. We wish to express them our deepest gratitude. This extends to Professor Anne Peters, who made us the gift of a powerful Foreword.
A sincere thank you goes to the anonymous reviewers who commented upon our book proposal, to the staff at Brill for the valuable assistance throughout the editorial and publication processes, and to our language reviewer Michelle.
Last but not least, the Editors are grateful one to each other, as we made the best to contribute this project with our different expertise and sensitiveness, in a fruitful process of constant academic and human exchange.
