This chapter is based on the proposals and experiences of teaching Ancient Egyptian Art at Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia, U.N.E.D., the biggest public online Spanish university. The Art History Degree at U.N.E.D. (based on a 4-year-programme and 240 ECTS) started in the academic year 2009/2010, being the first year of the compulsory subject ‘Art History of Ancient Egypt and the Ancient Near East’. This Art History Degree had great success although there is a decreasing trend in the number of students. It is primarily oriented towards the study of Art History of modern and contemporaneous times, offering the graduates the knowledge and abilities for a career in potential fields such as education, museums, or heritage and cultural management. The teaching method is a combined system based on a handbook and selected bibliography, and a virtual campus with online documents (i.e. multimedia material in several formats such as TV and radio programs, or open online massive courses) and thematic and specific forums. It could be complemented with optional tutorials at the different U.N.E.D. centers located all over Spain (and in some parts of Europe and America). With this proposal I will try to contribute to spread the U.N.E.D. online teaching model in the context of e-learning universities all around the world, and will try to benefit from the exchange of experiences from other Art History teachers. Besides, in the last year U.N.E.D. students must submit an undergraduate thesis linked to several themes, being one of them the topic ‘Art and Symbolism: painting and relief of Pharaonic Egypt in the New Kingdom’ conducted by the present author. This final project consists on designing a virtual exhibition with 20 Egyptian artworks. We will also try to show the preliminary results of this final project focused on Egyptian Art.
