New York struggled for decades over what to do with an abandoned elevated railroad line. After it was slated for destruction, community activists convinced local residents, developers, and the city government to transform this rusting and dangerous anti-landscape into a green artery that afforded spectacular views of the city and it has rejuvenated the area.
