The United Nations global community tasks all member States with the duty to serve every citizen’s human right to food as law. While this statement presumes the world’s potential in food security, the reality is the opposite in some countries. In Kenya, hunger has increased even as the Millennium Development Goals target year, 2015, comes to its close. The prevalence of such a situation is unacceptable in a society that respects the rule of law and embraces modern science and technology. But what sustains such a situation? Lack of education plays a major role. This paper explores the potential of the Universities in the fight against hunger in Kenya. With a case study of the University of Kabianga, it will assess the possibility of a cooperate approach generated by the University academic programmes and facilitated by its community outreach arrangements. It will argue that the Universities provide suitable institutional milieu in which society can create and implement relevant innovations to aid war against hunger. By a critical analysis of the traditional ‘idea of the University’ education, the paper will propose a tripartite administrative matrix tailored to facilitate integrated outreach programmes against hunger. In its conclusion the paper will plead for the entrenchment of analytic structures, creative innovations and character formation within an integrated administrative system as a lasting contribution of the universities to the fight against hunger.
