This research was only made possible with the support of many important people in my life. My parents supported my academic endeavors in every imaginable way, especially by making sure I never needed to worry about things at home while I travelled. As a female in academia, I realize what a rare gift this was, and no words can adequately express what this meant to me. While I was researching, our family was devastated when my mom passed away after her courageous battle with cancer. I grieve that she did not see this dream come to fruition—she would have been immeasurably proud. I honour her life and legacy by keeping my promise to finish what I started. This is for you, Mom, with all my love.
My husband, Tim, and our children, Robert and Pearl, cheered me along during what was, at times, a bumpy road that included a cross-country move, a global pandemic, family illness, and a season of grief. They faithfully provided a sense of deep purpose, abiding joy, endless laughter, and boundless encouragement. This was truly a family accomplishment. I love you all so much.
I would like to express appreciation to Dr. Frank D. Macchia, whose input and guidance have been invaluable in my scholarly journey. He has sharpened my thinking and encouraged both nuance and precision in my theological writing. I remain immensely grateful for his influence in my own academic journey, as well as for his significant impact on Pentecostal scholarship.
Rev. David Wells, General Superintendent of the PAOC, has encouraged my work as well; his commitment to ecumenical dialogue serves as a true inspiration and has made an enduring impact in our fellowship. Dr. Bradley Truman Noel, a dear mentor and friend, passed away tragically while I was writing. His influence on my academic and spiritual journey remains invaluable, and I am grateful for his guidance and friendship. Many friends and colleagues, old and new, have consistently cheered me on and I’m unspeakably grateful for their love and support. Lastly, it is my hope that this work contributes in meaningful ways to the community of which it speaks. Soli Deo Gloria.
