Acknowledgements
This book is a revised, abridged and updated version of my doctoral thesis, submitted in October 2023 and defended in December of the same year at the Faculty of Law of the University of Barcelona.
Writing this book would not have been possible without the dedication and guidance of my thesis supervisor, Mar Campins, who led me through the long process of writing a thesis and who made it a formidable learning experience. Thank you for being an example of academic rigour, of passion for environmental law and of commitment to the university.
During this adventure, I met researchers from various universities and institutions who in different ways contributed significantly to this book. The following are but a few of the most relevant individuals: Laura Movilla, Seline Trevisanut, Mara Tignino, Ángel Rodrigo, Francesco Sindico, Teresa Fajardo, Laurence Boisson de Chazournes, Komlan Sangbana and Lucia De Strasser. Thank you for your suggestions and your constructive criticism.
I would also like to thank all my colleagues in the Department of Public International Law and International Relations at the University of Barcelona who in one way or another have advised, guided or encouraged me at some point in the process: Xavier Pons, Andreu Olesti, Jordi Bonet, Laura Huici, Xavier Fernández, Rosana Alija, Ana Sánchez, Laura Salzano, Max Astorga, Marta Abegón, Elisenda Calvet, Marcia Rodrigues, Violeta Moreno-Lax, Gastón Medici, Anna Badia, Laura Planas and David Bondia.
Finally, I would like to thank my friends and family for their understanding, as I have been more absent than I would have liked to be in recent times. Above all, my heartfelt thanks go to Laura, who undertook her own doctorate at the same time as me, for your patience, support and understanding.
