Abstract

I want to present a contemplation of first-person perspectives, and at the same time, my contemplative approach to social research. I do it from a first-person perspective. I will present three approaches to first-person research: autoethnography, contemplative research, and transformational phenomenology. Finally, I will reconstruct first-person approaches from the position of Alfred Schütz’s phenomenology and his concept of a finite province of meaning. I engage in theoretical and critical contemplation regarding the reality of the first-person researcher and explore the dynamics of the relationship between the Researcher and Others. Who exactly is the Researcher? How do they navigate the boundary into the realm of the Other? In doing so, I delve into the specific domain of first-person research to understand how researchers perceive, feel, and articulate their experiences of the lifeworld.
