Abstract

After overviewing some of the most important structural paradoxes along with the consequent patterns of social suffering and the potential ways out from their deadlock, in chapter eight the conclusions are summarized. The new contract cannot rely either on a minimal consensus of the subjects (because of their heterogenous pattern of distortion) or on the expert institutional procedures (because of the systemsâ inability of self-correction). But it can rely on the logic of networking (White, Latour), which holds the potential of establishing a new moral order, without presupposing either the general commitment of the actors or the universal re-regulation of systems. The social contract for an era of permacrisis sets two goals. Firstly, any actors experiencing social suffering should start applying the trial of particularity on those network ties, which are perceived as being responsible for the damage. This means the suspension of those network ties, which transmit the distortive impact of the paradoxical structures, as exemplified by the non-action of actors in a mixed harming and harmed position; the hacking of technological satisfaction in a way, which reinforces the ethical and transcendental components of enjoyment; the reestablishing of mutual understanding with the help of proximity and bricolage. Secondly, beside revaluating their own networks, the actors experiencing social suffering should also enable the othersâ trial of particularity. The goals of applying the trial of particularity and simultaneously expanding its space within the network-environment constitute the moral commitment of the contracting partners. Being applied proportionally, these network reconfigurations have the potential of salvaging modernity.
