Acknowledgements
Associate Professor Carl Mika
I want to acknowledge Carl, who took up the role of Chief Supervisor after Michael left the University of Waikato. Carlâs immense philosophical knowledge, particularly regarding the philosophy of mystery and his understanding of Heideggerian concepts, was instrumental for me and my learning and development as a scholar. Carl was also a pillar of emotional support when I went through some very trying personal challenges. I want to extend my most profound respect and thanks for all the support.
Professor Jayne E. White
Equally, I would like to acknowledge and thank Jayne. She persevered as my supervisor through all stages of my PhD studies, even when she left the University of Waikato years before I submitted this work. I cannot imagine completing this research without Jayneâs willingness to contribute her extensive knowledge and experience in empirical research in visual pedagogies and her fantastic attention to detail. Jayne has also introduced me to many influential academics throughout the globe and enabled me to establish an extensive scholarly network. I would also like to thank Jayne for her compassion, care, and support, which helped me overcome all my challenges.
Distinguished and Emeritus Professor Michael Peters (Beijing Normal University)
I want to acknowledge and thank Michael for his contributions to this work, particularly in recognising my interest in VR and encouraging me to include this focus in my study. I admire Michaelâs incredibly widespread philosophical knowledge. He helped me enter the global publishing scene through his many connections with influential journals. Even though Michael passed on his chief supervisor role to Carl as he moved overseas, he continued to check up on my progress and supported my involvement in academia. For all this and more, I extend my deepest gratitude to Michael.
