Abstract

The chapter delves into Habermasâ contextualism and his critique of Brandomâs conceptual realism, both addressing the challenge of an empty coherentism. While Brandom, however, stresses the potential of the correct normative use of propositional language to approximate mind-external reality, Habermas adopts a pragmatist stance, embracing a relativistic worldview shaped by historical discourses. In his critique, Habermas associates Brandom with Hegelâs ahistorical superstructure of Absolute Spirit and his intent to negate time. However, the chapter concludes by advocating for a historical interpretation of Hegelâs negation of time as a form of intuition, ultimately leading to the more complete concept of historicity.
