Chirag Balyan
is an Assistant Professor of Law at Maharashtra National Law University Mumbai. His area of interest is contours of criminalization, antinomies in liberal theory, and preventive justice. The title of his doctoral thesis is: “Antinomies in the Criminal Justice System: A Normative Critique of the Pre-Trial Detention Laws in India”. He has recently published a book with Thomson Reuters titled, Revisiting Reforms in Criminal Justice System in India. He has also published a funded research project titled “Commercial Sexual Exploitation in Maharashtra: a study of public prosecutors” in collaboration with the Government of Maharashtra, India and International Justice Mission. Mr. Balyan regularly publishes in reputed journals.
Priya Das
is a Ph.D. scholar, University School of Law & Legal Studies, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Dwarka, Delhi. She obtained her law graduation from gnlu, Gandhinagar and ll.m. from ili, Delhi and was Assistant Professor at Delhi Metropolitan Education, Noida, and Uttar Pradesh.
Anurag Deep
has been in the teaching profession since 2001. He has served at cpm Degree College, Allahabad and Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University, Gorakhpur as full-time permanent law teacher from 2001 to 2012. He joined the Indian Law Institute, New Delhi as Associate Professor in 2012 and is currently serving as Professor since 2017. He completed his legal education from bhu, Varanasi with merit scholarships. He earned his Ph.D. from Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University, Gorakhpur on the theme “Laws regarding Terrorism and Violation of Human Rights (with special Reference to Cyber Terrorism).” He has reviewed research articles for journals like Indian Journal of International Law, rmlnluj, jili, etc. He has participated in developing courses, syllabus of various Universities. He has discharged the responsibilities in administrative capacity in Gorakhpur University as Warden of hostel, Asst Dean, Student welfare, Asst Proctor, Asst Coordinator – Exams and evaluation, and in the Indian Law Institute as Coordinator ll.m. and Diploma courses, Head-Disciplinary Committee, Procurement committee, Library committee, Tender committee, certificate and Gold Medal committee for convocation etc. He has written a dozen reference letters for students applying for Oxford,
Dipa Dube
is a Professor at Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law, iit Kharagpur. She held many responsibilities including Dean, Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law; Examination Malpractice Committee Member and Member, Council of Dean, Students Affairs. Her area of interests are gender violence, police & prison, crime against women and victims of crime.
Upma Gautam
is an Associate Professor of Law at School of Law & Legal Studies, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Dwarka, Delhi. She has 19 years’ experience in teaching and research where she taught many subjects including Criminal Law, Criminal Procedural Law, Criminology, Cyber Offences and its Investigation, Jurisprudence etc., She authored more than 25 research works on diverse topics, and the paper titled Spatial Dimensions of Understanding Nature as a “Person” in Law: Geographical Legal Implications was awarded the best paper in the icssr impress sponsored national conference “Spatial Dimensions of Environmental Problems and Natural Resource Law”. organized by the Department of Geography, Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, the University of Delhi at the Conference Centre, North Campus on 3 and 4 September 2019.
Debarati Halder
holds her Ph.D. in Law from nlsiu, Bangalore. She had been a practitioner in law before joining legal academia. She is deeply interested in Cyber Law, Victimology and Therapeutic Jurisprudence. Debarati is also a pro-bono cybercrime victim counselor and she specializes in cybercrimes against women and laws. She was the first in India to propose a law to penalize Revenge Porn. She is a doting mom and a passionate pet parent. She is founder of Centre for Cyber Victim Counseling, co-founder of South Asian Society of Criminology and Victimology, founder & editor-in-chief Gender and Internet, web magazine for cyber law for women, Global Advisory Committee member of International Society of Therapeutic Jurisprudence, Member of World Society of Victimology and Life member at Indian society of victimology. She authored four books with national and international publishers.

Sonali Kusum

She has submitted a Ph.D. thesis on “Constructing a Legal Framework on Surrogacy in India” at National Law School of India University Bangalore. She has received a Ph.D. in Law degree from the Chief Justice of India, Sharad Arvind Bobde, Supreme Court of India at National Law School of India University, Bangalore. For her research contribution on Surrogacy law in India, she had the opportunity to be invited by Rajya Sabha Committee on Health & Family Welfare to present her views and her suggestions have been included in the Rajya Sabha Report No. 102, August 2017 on the Surrogacy Bill 2016. Sharli Mudaliyar
is a doctoral scholar at the School of Social Work (ssw), Tata Institute of Social Sciences (tiss), Mumbai, India, holds a post-graduate degree in Law and Social Work and presently researching “Dual Victimization at the Intersection of Drug Use in Sex Trafficking”. With a decade of experience, she exhibits profound understanding of marginalized groups particularly victims of human trafficking, incarcerated population and child sexual abuse. Engaged in both grassroots research and field of practice, her trajectory in criminal justice and human trafficking commenced during her Masters in Social Work (Criminology and Justice) at tiss (2012), evolving from a professional social worker to a dedicated researcher, to paving the way for her current pursuit as a doctoral scholar, with a specialized focus on the study of trafficking, which directly stems from her field experience demonstrating her dedication to addressing critical issues emerging from the field. Through co-authored state reports. Her significant contributions in the field of legal aid for incarcerated population with Prayas-tiss include co-authoring influential reports like “Legal Representation for Undertrials in Maharashtra (2018–2021)” which aimed to address criminalization and marginalization of vulnerable undertrial prisoners across six prisons in Maharashtra and advocating for systemic reforms within the criminal justice framework. Garima Pal
is an Assistant Professor at Maharashtra National Law University Mumbai who continues to make significant contributions to the fields of Criminology, Victimology, and Human Rights. Holding a Ph.D. focused on “Drug Abuse and Alcoholism and the Role of Rehabilitation Centers in Uttarakhand,” she has established herself as a versatile and interdisciplinary scholar. Her professional journey is marked by notable positions, including her role as a Research Associate at the Institute of Social Sciences, New Delhi, and a Project Coordinator at nlu Delhi for projects funded by prestigious bodies like the Indian Council of Social Sciences Research, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the National Commission for Women. Her recent authorial works include “The Palghar Report: Status of Project Affected Families in Palghar,” published by Mohan Law House, and “Hate Crime in India,” published by Springer Nature. Additionally, on the “Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023” with Whiteman and Co. “The Palghar Report” has gained significant legal importance, as it has been submitted before the Bombay High Court in relation to an ongoing dispute. This underscores the report’s relevance and impact in addressing real-world issues and influencing judicial processes. Apart from her academic and research contributions, she has actively engaged in legal advocacy. She recently filed a Public Interest Litigation (pil) in the Bombay High Court concerning the appointment of a custodian for the proper execution of living wills. This action highlights her commitment to upholding human rights and contributing to important legal reforms. In addition to these achievements, she is leading two active research projects funded by the icssr and the National Commission for Women, focusing on “Social Media Intermediary Guidelines” and “Women Policing in the State of Maharashtra,” respectively.
Assistant Professor, is a dedicated scholar with a focus on research and education. Holding a Ph.D. from the Indian Law Institute, Delhi, her doctoral research delved into the vulnerability of children with incarcerated parents in India, advocating for a necessary legal framework to address their needs. She is also ugc-net/jrf qualified and has further enhanced her expertise through an online course on Contract Law from Harvard University. With a strong academic background, she is currently serving as an Assistant Professor at Quantum University, Roorkee, and Uttarakhand. Her teaching portfolio spans subjects like Labor Law, Legal English, Law of Contracts, and her research interests lie prominently in Child Rights. In her research endeavors, Dr. Rana has extensively explored the intricacies of the justice and social welfare machinery, particularly concerning the welfare of children. Her hands-on experience includes internships with the Chief Probation Officer in Delhi and interactions with various stakeholders like Child Welfare Committees and Juvenile Justice Boards. Dr. Rana has contributed significantly to academia through publications in esteemed journals and chapters in books addressing socio-legal issues in India. Moreover, she has presented her research findings at national and international conferences, demonstrating her commitment to advancing discourse on critical topics such as human rights, surrogacy, and the rights of vulnerable groups.
Antonio Reza
was named by University of San Francisco as one of 2021’s “30 under 30”, usf graduates who are changing the world. At usf, he graduated magna cum laude with a ba in communication studies and with minors in sociology and in legal studies. He was also the Northern California student representative for the California System Involved Bar Association, the student president for the National Justice Impact Bar Association, a clinical law student for the Northern California Innocence Project, and a judicial intern for Santa Clara County Judge Vanessa Zecher.
Rupesh Rizal
is an ll.m. student of Parul Institute of Law, Parul University, and Vadodara. He is also a practicing advocate registered with Sikkim Bar Association. He is actively involved in various research initiatives taken by Dr. Halder and has also assisted her for the same.
is a full Professor of Sociology of Law, Deviance and Social Change at the Department of Law of the University of Parma, where she teaches “Sociology of deviance”, “Sociology of law” and “Criminology”. She is also the director of the Course for ‘Juridical expert in family and minors’ rights in supporting the local social services’, held by University of Parma and the Emilia-Romagna Region. In 2018 she was appointed the Chair of the Interdepartmental Research Center (cirs,) of the University of Parma. At the same University, she was the chair of the Social Work programmes.
Tusha Singh
did her graduation (B.A., LL.B.) at University School of Law & Legal Studies in 2017 and Postgraduate (Criminal Law) at National Law University, Delhi, in 2018. She is currently a teaching associate in Amity Law School, Noida.
Arvind Tiwari
is a well known Criminologist and a scholar in Criminal Justice & Forensic Science, Human Rights, Police Studies & Public Security, Criminal law & Access to Justice, Victimology, Youth Justice and Crime & Development. He completed his Bachelor of Arts, m.a. (Gold Medalist) and Ph.D. in Criminology & Forensic Science at Dr. h.s. Gaur Central University, Sagar, and Madhya Pradesh. He has published several articles in peer reviewed journals and chapters in edited books. He has been engaged in many public policy research projects in the area of Access to Justice Fellowship Project (Tata Trust & tiss), Non-Registration of Crimes: Problems and Solutions (Bureau of Police Research and Development, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India), Bail and Its Extent of Abuse Including Recidivism (svp National Police Academy, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India), Community policing and its Impact on Public Order (tiss), Role of Fast Track Courts in Dispenzation of Speedy Justice (tiss), Open Prisons in India (tiss), Status Report on Human Rights in India (tiss), Medical Facilities in Indian Prisons: Role of Doctors and Para-Medical Staff to uphold Right to Health of Prisoners (tiss). He has given over 100 conference presentations such as Presidential address, Keynote address, Special address and Chaired sessions.
