Abstract

Following its withdrawal from the EU, the UK has sought to develop a credible independent and autonomous sanctions framework. This chapter outlines the evolution of the UK sanctions framework since departing the EU, including by describing changes introduced by the key Sanctions and Anti-Money Laundering Act 2018 â the cornerstone of the UKâs new sanctions framework â and the Economic Crime (Transparency and Enforcement) Act 2022. It ends by reflecting on some of the emerging differences between the UKâs sanctions regime and those of other jurisdictions, with a particular focus on that of the EU.
