Alexandre Tavadian is a Canadian national. He holds an ll.b. from the University of Montreal, a master’s degree in public international law from the University of Geneva, a master’s degree in administrative law from the University of Montreal, and a Ph.D. in international law from Leiden Law School of Leiden University. Alexandre currently works as the Principal Legal Advisor of a large nato agency headquartered in Luxembourg. Before joining nato, he was a Senior Legal Officer at unhcr in Thailand and Kenya. He also worked as a lawyer for the United Nations Secretariat in Lebanon and Kenya. Alexandre began his legal career as Legal Counsel in the Federal Department of Justice Canada. Alexandre is a seasoned litigator, having appeared before several national and international courts and tribunals. He is the Chair of the International Maritime Organization’s (imo) and World Customs Organization’s (wco) Staff Appeals Boards. He is also a Senior Lecturer at the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (unitar).
He is the author of articles and textbooks, the most recent of which is titled “United Nations Law, Politics, and Practice”.
