Abstract

Somaesthetics of discomfort provides tools for instrumentally usurping normativity that imposes ideologies of domination upon bodies. I argue that somaesthetics provides an underutilized set of tools for interrogating alienation. By developing somaesthetics with specific regard for feelings of discomfort that accompany alienation and misfitting, inquiry becomes rooted in material experiences of abjection, oppression, and exclusion, which have too often been silenced or homogenized through overly generalized discourse.
