Acknowledgements
The editors would like to take this opportunity to thank the many individuals who have contributed to the realization of this volume. A number of unexpected events have delayed the production of this volume, from hurricanes and global pandemics to personal matters. We would first and foremost like to thank our contributors for their patient forbearance. We are glad, however, that the delay to the volume has allowed for the inclusion of additional voices.
We would like to thank the editors and readers at Brill for their persistence in helping us to bring this volume to completion. No volume with such a chronological range is possible without the assistance of excellent librarians, and we would like to acknowledge the help of librarians at usml, unc, and Methodist University in particular for their assistance. Much work was accomplished during sabbaticals awarded by our home institutions, for which we are grateful.
Finally, particular words of thanks are due to Robin Hilliard for her tireless editorial assistance and Latin expertise, Brett Whalen for his help with access to materials, and Roger Franklin Becker for his support as well as his assistance in averting computer disasters.
All errors, of course, remain our own.
