Acknowledgments
We would like to express our gratitude to the contributors to this volume, the editors of the “Word and Music Studies” series, and the editorial and production staff at Brill, especially Christa Stevens and Peter Buschman. We thank Dustin Barker for compiling the volume’s Index and assisting us in reviewing the first set of proofs.
An outline of the scope and methodology of this volume was first presented at the “Through a Glass Darkly: Fifth Annual UCCS Symposium on Apocalyptic,” which was held in March 2019 at the Heller Center for Arts & Humanities at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs. This symposium was generously underwritten by various entities at UCCS: the Humanities Program, the Department of Visual and Performing Arts, the Department of History, and the Center for Religious Diversity and Public Life.
Financial support for this volume has been provided by grants and awards from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, and the Office of Vice-President Research and Graduate Studies, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Science, and the Department of Religions and Cultures at Concordia University Montréal.
From Colin: For over twenty years, I have frequented two superb bookshops in the San Diego area: DG Wills Books, and the Adams Avenue Bookstore (which closed in 2018). Proprietors Dennis Wills and Michael Smythe have offered me discounts (especially appreciated as an impoverished graduate student), allowed me to rummage through boxes and backrooms, and always been ready for a good chat. I would like to thank these two gentlemen who—like my family, colleagues, and mentors—have been influential in my development as a scholar and as a person.
