Abstract

This chapter draws on the image of John’s “sour stomach” in Revelation 10 as a tool for broadening the conceptualization and practices of the theological interpretation of Scripture. After demonstrating the relative homogeneity among interpreters who identity (or are identified) as proponents of the theological interpretation of Scripture, this chapter draws on the image of John’s sour stomach in order to include other theologically oriented readings as examples of the theological interpretation of Scripture, even if they may reflect a different set of presuppositions about Scripture or its authority.
