Abstract

The following reflections result from almost 10 years of practical activity in schools (mainly primary) in the field of Educational Robotics. These experiences have allowed us to understand how Educational Robotics, in small groups, can be excellent school practice for the development of social competencies and pro-social attitudes. Over the years, teacher insights and activities have become the basis for studies and projects, co-funded by the Erasmus Plus Programme of the European Commission, in different fields and age groups. For example, the project PEARL – Emotional Empathetic Proximal Learning Educational Environment (2018-1-1TO2-KA201-048515) – addresses early childhood and develops an educational model based on the feelings that arise in children age 3–6 years, while playing together with a learning robot (http://pearl-project.org). Also, the Policy Reform Project, Robots versus Bullying (612872-EPP-1-2019-1-EN-EPPKA3-PI-FORWARD) focuses on the promotion of social competencies and the prevention of bullying, with educational robotic activities for school pupils age 5–11 years (www.roboticsbullying.net). The observations made during educational robotic activities in groups and the dialogues with teachers have given rise to a series of reflections on the sociological value of robotics. The activity of educational robotics in groups, due to the dynamics, brings in social, pedagogical and educational aspects that are seldom considered or discussed.
