Abstract

The world is changing in complex and uncertain ways and the breadth and rate of these frenzied changes is exhausting for personal and professional lives. These rapid changes include natural disasters through to opportunist, ideological and pragmatic discourses. In short, the context of our being, doing, knowing and ‘leading’ has shifted in an irreversible manner. Today’s leaders must enact their role ‘within’ and ‘beyond’ the context in which they find themselves, motivated and convinced by the reality that ‘the status quo is never an option’, leaders must move beyond formulaic styles of leadership toward relational and nuanced ways of ‘being in’ leadership.
