Different effects of declarative information in instructions for use have been investigated in the previous chapters: effects on task performance, on cognitive load, on confidence, and on the appreciation of the instructions and the device. In the present chapter, the effect of system information on the transfer of knowledge is investigated¹. In section 4.1, this topic is introduced and a literature overview is presented. In sections 4.2, 4.3 and 4.4 three experiments are described that investigate the effects of system information on the transfer of knowledge. These sections start with a short introduction and the formulation of the hypotheses, followed by a description of the method of the experiment. Next, the results and the conclusions are described. In section 4.5 the results of the experiments are discussed.
