Essentials of Governance: Twelve Lectures on Social Contradictions was published by Shandong Peopleâs Publishing House in 2017. The English translation received funding from China Classics International in 2019.
I have used English editions of texts as the source for quotations in this work wherever possible. If no English edition of a text was available, I translated the quotations from the Chinese edition myself.
I would like to express my gratitude to Kerry Allen and Malcolm Thompson for their meticulous editing and proofreading, and to Caroline Fenn for reading chapters one, four, seven, eleven, and twelve and giving me the benefit of her linguistic advice.
