Im Zentrum dieses Beitrags steht die Frage nach der institutionellen Erhaltung und Reproduktion von Wissenschaft, die sowohl aus der Perspektive des systemfunktionalistischen Ansatzes von Robert K. Merton beleuchtet wird, wie aus der Perpektive der genetisch-strukturalen Bildungssoziologie Pierre Bourdieus. Nach der Darstellung einiger ihrer Grundbegriffe ergibt sich eine Konvergenz in bezug auf das Anerkennungs-Paradigma als Träger von wissenschaftlicher Entwicklung und Wandlung. Es wird kurz umrissen, worin sich beide Ansätze unterscheiden.
