Abstract

In recent decades, the countries in the Arab region have made efforts to develop towards information societies and to transform their mainly fossil-fuel-based and poorly diversified economies into knowledge economies. Modern information and communication technologies (ICTs) play a central role in this transformation process. Besides, the Arab region is also one of the most vulnerable to the adverse impact of climate change. Against this backdrop, this chapter explores the potential direct and indirect implications of digital change processes and the emergence of information societies in the Arab countries for climate change mitigation and adaptation.
