Using the findings of Chapter 5 and 6, the extent to which the International Criminal Court supports or removes African ownership over pursuing accountability is investigated. How perceptions of the court’s use in areas of African Union competence contribute to the international system’s shortcomings. These are contextualised by considering how the court’s actions and approach, as well as that of the United Nations Security Council, have created a removal of ownership from African states and the African Union.
