Acknowledgements
It should first be acknowledged that I live, work, and organize, on the unceded (that is, stolen) territories of the Coast Salish Peoples, where most of the writing of the book was done.
I would like to recognize and thank all of the people working to organize anarchism and striving to build better worlds beyond the Earth destroying capitalist system of exploitation and control—and its statist facilitators. And who are creating real world supports to make alternatives possible. This includes the people organizing to defend our communities from assault by rising forces of authoritarianism and neofascism. I would like to thank especially those I have worked with directly in numerous projects over decades, including but not limited to projects that are discussed in this book.
In particular I would like to thank Eva Ureta for ongoing love and support. This book benefitted greatly from conversations with Eva over many days and nights of discussion, including many late nights at the all-night café Breka on Davie and Granville in Vancouver. It would not have been the same without her inspiration and enthusiasm and without the perspective developed over many conversations (and laughs and smiles) with Eva throughout. Her joyful energy, support, and encouragement have lifted me.
I must thank Molly and Saoirse Shantz for their support and for being such wonderful folks to share a household—and a world—with. They have generously allowed me much time to do the work that I do.
Thank you as well to David Fasenfest, the Critical Social Sciences series editor, for supporting active, engaged, critical scholarship and research with such dedication.
This is an exciting period of anarchist organizing, and anti-capitalist organizing more broadly. There are so many grounded and inspiring projects of mutual aid and solidarity building bases for durable positive social transformation, defending communities today and building new relations for tomorrow. I hope the discussions here do right by them while also offering some additional inspiration and insight.
