Acknowledgments
This book is based on my dissertation written under the supervision of Prof. Rachel Milstein, to whom I here express my gratitude for her guidance on my long path, starting out with my days as a bachelor student, through my master studies, to this current research. Her suggestions, support and encouragement were always offered readily and graciously. I would like also to thank the members of my dissertation committee, Professor Miriam Rosen-Ayalon and Dr. Julia Rubanovich, for their thoughtful comments.
I am especially grateful for the financial support I received during my doctoral studies from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem as part of the President’s Award for outstanding doctoral students. I would also like to thank the Smith Foundation, under whose auspices I was awarded a travel fellowship which allowed me to conduct research in the British Library. My thanks also go to the heads of the Buber Society of Fellows, for allowing me to turn my dissertation to a book. The head of the program, Professor David Shulman, encouraged me to work on my book from my first day in the program. Thanks also to Yael Baron for her support and care during my post-doctoral program.
