Introduction
More recent publications, such as Barlow, 1982 (An Introduction to the Moths of South East Asia), Holloway, 1983 (Notodontidae in the series Moths of Borneo), or several publications of the Heterocera Sumatrana Society e.V., e.g. Schintlmeister, 1994 greatly expanded our knowledge of the fauna of Sundaland, i.e., the Malay Peninsula, Borneo, and Sumatra. The Notodontidae of the Philippines (Schintlmeister & Lourens, 2010), Vietnam (Schintlmeister, 1997) and Thailand (Schintlmeister & Pinratana, 2007) have already been published. A taxonomic-faunistic study of the Notodontidae of the Indonesian archipelago, in particular its eastern parts, is missing. Such a work is important for a more complete view of Oriental Notodontidae and provides base data for further phylogenetic or biogeographic studies.
The purpose of this book is to enable the user to identify most of the Oriental Notodontidae.
