Acknowledgments
The author is grateful to Baylor University’s College of Arts and Sciences for a summer research sabbatical in 2019 and again in the fall of 2020, and to the Pontifical Institute for Mediaeval Studies in the University of Toronto, for awarding a visiting faculty researcher appointment during both research leaves, which enabled me to access their collection and to work on the final stages of this volume in the place where I began my doctoral studies as a research fellow in the Centre for Medieval Studies forty years earlier. Ann Hutchison, academic dean of the PIMS, and Greti Dinkova-Bruun, director of the PIMS Library, ensured that I received access to their outstanding collections and a comfortable place to work. The Medieval Sermon Studies Society helped this project make progress by publishing two descriptive articles presenting case studies, written while the editing was in progress. The Museum of the Bible Foundation graciously allowed the principal manuscript edited here to be housed temporarily in the Armstrong Browning Library in Baylor University. This has not only made this edition possible but also allowed the editor to provide first-hand experience to talented students in a manuscript seminar in Baylor University’s Classics Department during the spring of 2017. The Universitetsbibliotek in Uppsala furnished digital copies of the relevant manuscript pages in its collection. Thanks are also extended to Bert Roest, University of Nijmegen, for information on print editions of Franciscan sermon collections, to Carla DeSantis for preliminary copyediting, and to Marta Steele for assistance with indexing. I am deeply grateful to Nigel Palmer, University of Oxford, for his advice on the paleography of both manuscripts containing the texts edited here. David d’ Avray, University College, London, is owed special thanks for having offered his expertise in Mendicant preaching to critique a draft of my introductory essay. The author extends sincere thanks to Dr. Falk Eisermann, editor of the SMRT-TS book series, and the anonymous readers for their detailed scrutiny and sound advice on a complete draft of the volume. The errors and shortcomings in this edition are entirely mine.
