The Essential Air and Space Law Series is a collection of prominent studies aimed at experienced practitioners (e.g. lawyers, policy makers in governments, national and international organizations, private entities) as well as academics involved in research and study of air and space law. The series will also be a useful source of information for technical experts.
In the field of aviation law, the series covers the wide range of topics relating to national and international aviation, such as the regulation and use of airspace, the operation of airports and legal issues relating to aviation accidents, compensation and insurance, as well as problems relating to aircraft noise and CO2 emissions. However, aviation law is constantly evolving, e.g. to keep up with safety standards as the skies become more crowded and new technologies emerge.
Space law includes both international and national legislation governing the exploration and use of outer space. It covers highly topical issues such as State responsibility and liability for damage caused by space objects, remote sensing of the Earth from space, telecommunications, international cooperation and dispute settlement. However, the rapid pace of technological progress also requires the development of new international safety standards and regulations, e.g. on pressing matters such as space debris mitigation and space traffic management.
Given the diversity of problems in both air and space law, where the interests and positions of different actors (states, international organizations, private entities) have to be taken into account, the series also attaches great importance to interdisciplinary co-authorship among lawyers and technical experts, in cooperation with e.g. political scientists and/or disarmament experts.
