M. Cherif Bassiouni is Professor of Law at DePaul University. He was a driving force behind the establishment of the ICC, having advocated it worldwide for the last 30 years. In 1998, he served as Chairman of the Drafting Committee of the United Nations Diplomatic Conference on the Establishment of an International Criminal Court. Prior to that, from 1996 to 1998, he served as Vice-Chairman of the Preparatory Committee on the Establishment of an International Criminal Court and, in 1995, as Vice Chairman of the ad hoc Committee on an International Criminal Court.
