Abstract

This chapter comments on a sample of Kierkegaard’s claims on his method of production and of publication as well as reflections on himself as an author. This analysis allows concluding that he describes himself as a heroic poet, to the point that his self-descriptions make him the archetype of the romantic poet as a disgraced genius, later known as poète maudit (accursed writer). In the first section, I discuss the self-claimed and the real differences between pseudonyms and the signature S. Kierkegaard. In the second section, I develop the heterogeneity of his authorship, comparing it to the production and the heterogeneous authorial stances of Robert Schumann and Fernando Pessoa. In the last section, I underscore the identified heroic components of Kierkegaard as a poet in some of his own accounts and in Diapsalmata, and his self-portrayal in The Point of View which ends up being a religious version of the accursed writer.
